Surprisingly the billion dollar Pay Per Click industry continues to increase at a rate of 23% per year. Budgets from new advertisers continue to come in to Google, Bing, smaller ppc ad providers as well as PPC management firms daily. Along with the increase in PPC budgets, we have also seen a rise in the overall number of click frauds.

According to Wikipedia “Click fraud is a type of Internet crime that occurs in pay per click online advertising when a person, automated script or computer program imitates a legitimate user of a web browser clicking on an ad, for the purpose of generating a charge per click without having actual interest in the target of the ad’s link. Click fraud is the subject of some controversy and increasing litigation due to the advertising networks being a key beneficiary of the fraud.”

Studies have show that the overall industry average click fraud rate is about 16%.

Here are some tips that will help limit click fraud in your Pay Per Click campaign while increasing your PPC ROI results.

1. Analytics use a reliable web stats tracking program and study trends of your click throughs.

2. Use GEO Targeting, if your a regional or local business, only display ads in those areas. A large amount of click fraud comes from countries that you probably do not do business with anyways so targeting locations is optimal.

3. Use only top tier systems to run your ad campaigns on, 2nd tier PPC ad providers offer click throughs at a far lower rate then Google, Yahoo and Bing but the quality is much lower and the click fraud is guaranteed to be higher.

4. Limit the times of day that your ads display. Running your ads during business hours seem to provide a higher rate of return. Also there are many bots that run at night and studies have shown that click fraud rates are higher between 9pm – 6am.

5. Bid on lower cost terms, click fraud tends to happen on high dollar terms. Use long tail keyword terms to lower your click fraud risk and increase your PPC campaigns ROI.

Of course this varies on opinion, but for the most part the gage on quality content could include factors like “what the content is intended for” or “how it benefits the writer’s intended audience”.

If someone has thousands of subscribers or followers then there is usually some value to their content, whether it be educational, entertainment, editorial or other. When judging the validity of a website’s content, take a close look at the incentives that are given to join, follow or subscribe to a feed.

Those who provide non-incentive driven content seem a little more genuine in there offerings and probably have less of an agenda.

When writing content for your own website, you basically want to make sure that you write it yourself. What I mean is you should not pull your content from others and chop, change and publish what you find out on the net.

You want to make your web content your own, with a spin from your own personality. This type of writing does take time to develop, but quality copy writing is a valuable skill to posses.

Make a writing goal stick to it, I find that if you have set a goal to make a post every day, your writing skills will improve in no time.

When Link building started, it was merely a way for Webmasters to show their appreciation for other website’s subject content or value.

Progressively link building turned into more of a voting or favor type system where a webmaster would put a link from their website to another website in return for a link back this process is known as reciprocal linking.

Once website owners started noticing the benefits of traffic generation their links brought in, they became more interested in developing strategies that would allow them to build links to their websites in grand scale. Google picked up on the the whole link building trend early on and used it as part of their algorithm to ranking websites. When it was leaked that the Google ranking algorithm valued linking, a whole new system began to arise in the buying and selling of quality backlinks.

Webmasters found that it could make big money selling links off their website if they had established high Google pagerank, this was know as link juice or the ranking value google asigns from an incoming link, website owners developing their site’s web promotion were glad to pay for quality keyword anchor text links that they knew Google would pick up and boost their pagerank.

This may be problems for Google because linking was process supposed to be a natural process,

Google for Webmasters Tutorial: Ranking

Developing too many links too fast, even if they are high quality links, can raise a red flag with the Google and your site could be penalized.

Most people would find it interesting to note that Google ranks Web pages and not websites as a whole. The two main ranking factors that Google includes when displaying webpages are relevance and importance.

Link Relevance:
An important element in ranking webpages through the use of links include not just the quantity count of how many sites link to yours but the quality of who is linking to you. Also another important factor is the content of the site that is linking to yours, ensure that you only link to sites that are on-topic of yours.

Link Importance:
Googles initial algorithm set that assesses the importance of Web pages was called pagerank. Now Google uses over 200 components to rank Web pages and page rank is just one of them.

3 Important Tips in to help Your Link Building:

1. Look for high-quality sites that have exchange forms and sections prebuilt.

2. Look for unique Free Link Building Tools or

Now that Google seems to have found a way to monetizes their youtube channel, I suspect that we will be seeing more video results finding its way to the top of Google search.

This might be an effective SEO Optimization method to take advantage of to get your content to rank if you are proficient in video production.

Matt Cutts suggested encapsulating each video on a site in its own web page so meta content and text could be used to describe the video to the bots. This is one way of providing your viewers valuable content and an efficient method to SEO by optimizing each video title.

Here is a good video put out by Google that will teach you the basics of getting your youtube video’s to rank high in Google search.

Just throwing video up into youtube will not guarantee to you top SERPs and according to Google, your video’s will only rank well if all factors are present including content quality and hits and ratings.

How are videos ranked in the Google Video search results?
“After determining the content of the video using our spidering technology, Google then combines sophisticated text-matching techniques to find videos that are both important and relevant to your search. Almost all express a desire to increase the number of visitors to their website, that’s a given but whats most interesting is that they are educated enough to know the specific type of visitors they require. With the emergence of analytics, website owners have more data available at hand to track their ROI. Small business owners are realizing the role and value a website plays in their overall blueprint.

Driving the masses to your website might sound good in theory but but savvy website owners know that if your traffic doesn’t convert into customers then there is definitely a situation where their marketing efforts will become money and time wasted.

Here are 3 effective and low cost methods to help drive local and niche traffic to your website:

Blogs
Develop a blog for your website, post 5 to 7 days per week is best. Google like fresh content. You are able to target visitors by keyword searches with the content you post. It is best to create a separate domain for your blog and point anchor keyword links back in your posts to your main website.

Web Directories
Find niche and local directories to submit your website to. Many are free and give a “follow” link back to your site. here is a FREE Web Directory you can submit your site to, and it doesn’t require a reciprocal link.

Social Media
Definitely utilize social media like facebook and twitter, facebook has become the most visited website online so posting and building your facebook status will be worth your time. Twitter is an excellent way to build a following to submit your businesses coupons, specials and promotions. Also Look into video as a promotional tool, with youtube and a cheap hd camera you can send your message to the masses.

One of the biggest factor in raising your clickthrough rate is a call to action tagline usually at the end of the ad.

I have seen some work well in the title also, but it’s tricky with the limited amount of characters that is provided by Google. Google Ads can show, including spaces, 25 characters for the title, 70 characters for the ad text, and 35 characters for a display URL.

Another trick you can use is to create a PPC landing page specifically designed for the keyword you are targeting. We like to put both the keyword and the call to action in the URL to reinforce the ads effectiveness. Try this technique on your next campaign and set up to separate landing pages. Track the conversion rates on both one with a call to action and the other without and you will find that 99% of the time the one with the call to action will out preform the one with out.

PPC Campaign Management Including Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing , MSN / Bing Ad Center and a Host of Secondary PPC ad providers. Starting in 2001, we have accrued years experience managing pay per click campaigns for our clients. We are experts in PPC campaign setup and management, our experience and dedication will give you the competitive edge and guarantees your website’s marketing campaign success.
